McFlurry-lessness...
First, let me give you the magic number - 1. That's the number of McFlurry's I've had since I moved back on July 4rth. Withdrawal was tough. I missed the apartment, the DVD collection, the internet (my parents still had dial-up, I finally upgraded it about a month ago), the roof, sheesha (number of sheesha's had since return to Islamabad is a little higher, 2), the people - Saaim's endless ideas, Taha and Sohaib's weird love, KLepo and his KLepo-ness, Andrew and Zafirah's relationship which very closely resembles marriage :P and of course, the McFlurry and McDonalds trips.
However, I was quick to realize that life in Islamabad is essentially very cool. I have a great cable, nice flat screen TV, the potential to get DSL internet, access to cooked food, washed clothes, a maid, cook, car, and of course, family. The last two months have gone a long way to help me recover from the one year I spent washing my own clothes, cleaning bathrooms, doing dishes, ordering in, and generally living a tough-ish (by current standards) life.
Of course, my transition (lol) was greatly helped by the fact that I spent one month with my sister and her kids here, and even got to go on a family vacation up north....no time to think of the McFlurry times. But everyone's gone now, and although I was a little unsure of how I'd like a sibling-less house, I'm happy to announce that the new McFlurry-less life still suits me just fine. I eat healthy (salads, no ordering out, well balanced meals), exercise, sleep well, wake up early, and spend crazy amounts of time on the internet.
So next step, getting a job :)

A random week...
First, on my way to a meeting on I.I Chundrigar, while walking on the road (right about to across it) I hear my full name being called out. Turn around and find Ahmed Bilal, someone from LUMS, cool guy :) but someone who I'd only exchanged facebook comments with for the last two years...so we're standing there in the middle of this road catching up...so weird! Weirder still, I'd gotten his number like a week before this hoping to catch up with him before I left Karachi.
Then, today, on my way to the big-park-next-to-Park-Towers, again while crossing the road (not the same road, this time Zamzama) I look at the car that so courteously stopped for us, and it's Omar Khalid (OK) and one of his bandmates from ADP. Weird...but not as weird as what happens next. I wave, move on...then this car stops..and this girl waves (I think at me)...I look closer...it's Arooj...this girl I went to high school with...and she wasn't waving at me, she was waving at Michael Kamau and Anna. So once she sees me it's all...where have you been...blah blah (by the way, I actually do like her...just that it was too much catching up in like one minute to put down)
Anyway...weird week. In terms of catching up with/running into people I barely see/never see otherwise.
Last two weeks in Karachi :) Ze countdown has begun!

Tea Time
So we get downstairs, head for Taha's car, and realize - oh no! - there's a punctured tire! Not letting this faze us one bit, Taha, KLepo and I start puttering around trying to get the spare on, and Sohaib, his usual useless self :P is standing in a corner, smoking. What follows is undoubtedly the funniest half hour I've ever experienced this early in the morning, unfortunately, I only started taking
Anyway, I was talking about how the car tire was being changed. So just as Taha had managed to raise the car with the jack, bang!, the car fell off it. Like literally, just slid off the jack! At first I thought Klepo (who was at the back) had accidentally pushed it, but looking over I realized he was no where near it! Taha's expression was priceless, KLepo was swearing in Slavak, and Sohaib and I couldn't stop laughing. Anyway, we
Then comes the difficult part, raising the car that one extra inch or
What seems like an hour later (ok, no, 10 minutes!) the car is up on the jack, and miraculously, the rest of the tire changing procedure was completed within minutes by the onlookers, with Taha providing a little help. Sohaib, is standing around looking like he did a lot, Klepo is still smiling and Taha's like, "shit, my clothes are messed up now!" and I'm like "let's go!"

Karachi
Now I'm here :/
I like the city - don't get me wrong. But I can't ever imagine living in this city long term. Admittedly, it has a beach (and access to lots more nearby), you can go crabbing (yum!) and zamzama is, well, zamzama :D It's a fun, crazy, noisy, alive place to be - all of one year - then you're like, seriously dude, I gotta get out! I'm more of a I-need-a-quiet-place-to-think kinda person, so this constant hum of traffic, generators (during power cuts) and people is a little annoying.
...3 months left :)

Sonnet XVII
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Race over
*Spoilers Ahead*
Anyway, lemme start off by saying that if you like Indian movies, you'll probably like this one. It's "alright"...not great...not incredibly horrible. What saves the movie from being horrible is Saif Ali Khan (and for the guys, the hot chicks). At one point, when I thought he'd died, I was all set to walk out of the cinema (then realized that I wasn't in DHA, and had no way to get home!) so decided to stick around, thankfully, since Saif was brought back from the dead (yes, that's true, the DEAD!) towards the end.
Another good thing is a couple of songs (not the touch-me one, but the race one!), some of which are very jive-worthy I might add! Junaid was actually noting down steps :P
Finally, the cars! Oh the cars :)
What makes the movie irritating:
- Akshaye Khanna
- Katrina Kaif's acting (or lack there of)
- Anik Kapoor and his dumb jokes
- Sameera Reddy and her Jessica Simpson-esque role
- The jokes (they deserve their own line!)
& the one million and one twists (my brain grew numb at one point!)
If you must watch it, then go to a cheap cinema (I think I'd have killed Taha had I payed for Cineplex tickets.), and make sure you hoot along (I was the only person hooting every time Saif was on-screen :D) as that just adds to the fun :D
I'm putting up the movie poster as eye-candy - ah, Saif :)

Thatta...and more
Firstly, let me say that I'm really glad all the idiots made it back alive. This could've gone a lot worse. And my plea to everyone is to always wear a seatbelt! (unless you're in Taha's car, which doesn't have any!)
The story goes something like this (and I might be wrong, as this is was told to me mostly by people not in the car). These guys are coming back from Thatta in two cars (Lodhi's and Adeel Malik's) with Sohaib/Aun/Anna/Zafirah and Adeel in his car, and Andrew/KLepo/Michael and Lodhi in the other. Obviously, this being a road trip of sorts, there's a lot of talking/singing going on in the cars, when suddenly Adeel Malik realizes there's a truck in front of his car, that he's going to bang into. Oh no! Lots of brakes, screams (probably Sohaib's), oh fucks (Aun) and praying (Zafirah) must've followed before the car actually hit the truck. Thankfully, no one got seriously injured (because of the seatbelts!!) and Adeel walked away with just a few scratches (and a heavily damaged car!) Regardless, he proceeded to come over to the Mansion for sheesha after, and the trooper that he is, will be joining us for Race tonight!
In the aftermath of this accident, Sohaib has taken to squealing every time Taha drives to fast (And those of you who've seen Taha's car must know that too fast in that isn't really that fast at all)
the perfect sunday
Some background: my Sunday's usually suck! I get up, people are everywhere (I live with 9 people) and there is general chaos and no direction. Usually we try and do something big (like go sightseeing, big dinner) and I end up feeling like i got no time to relax over the weekend.
Yesterday, my aforementioned housemates had all gone to Thatta for a day trip, so when I woke up at 2 PM(yes, 2!) there was no one around, so I had a nice breakfast, listened to music REALLY loudly and started my laundry.
After about an hour, some friends dropped by, so I talked to them, but they left in about an hour so then I went to Sunday market (oh, the lovely-ness!) and just walked around there for quite a bit, bought some stuff.
Came back, had lunch/dinner, and then just read magazines and books till my housemates got back. Then we had sheesha, talked on the roof for a bit, and I came back downstairs, listened to music till I fell asleep.
Icing on the cake was a call from NY - Tori/Kirmani who were spending a Sunday together decided to call and congratulate Sohaib on my cell, but that only meant I got to talk to both of them, which was great!
Blips on the perfect Sunday:
- Adeel Malik and the rest of the troupe making noise at 9 AM in the kitchen (bitches!) and waking me up (I ignored them and went back to sleep)
- The car crash, and the excitement it caused (more on that later)

And so it happened...
In September 2005, we recruited some great kids into AIESEC. We recruited a couple of freshmen, and some of these went on to become EB members that December. One of them, Hasan, sat down with me at a national conference, and we planned what he was going to do in AIESEC for the next 4 years. We realized that in order to run for MCP, he'd need to stay fully involved in the LC till he graduated, thus making it logical that he apply for LCP at some stage. The best time to do this was his last year - 2008/2009.
Later that year, at a mid-year recruitment, we recruited another freshman (one of many), who, we quickly realized, was able to get along with anyone, and ended up becoming someone the EB would turn to when trying to work out LC problems. That was Adeel. Somewhere in the middle of 2006, he too realized he wanted to to apply for the EB, and then maybe later, LCP. in the 2008/2009 term :)
(This is turning into an Indian movie, sorry!)
Anyway - today was those elections. Two people we'd recruited, seen take on various positions, with various results were running against each other (plus Bubloo, but this story is not about him, sorry again!). They were both equally good, both had been trained equally well. The difference was their approach on what the LC needed to do next year, and how they were going to get it done.
People have asked me, who would you rather win. I can't choose, it's not a fair question. Since 2006, I'd known one of these guys would be LCP 2008/2009 - but over the years I had varied opinions on who would do a better job, depending on their recent successes and failures. For me, they were both ideal candidates, unfortunately, there's only one LCP :)
Anyway, I just came out of elections, and we have the answer - the LCP for AIESEC Lahore 2008/2009 is Adeel Hasan. I couldn't be happier, I couldn't be sadder. It's so odd.
Congrats Adeel - you're going to do a great job! And Hasan, MCP elections 2009/2010 are next year :)

What City Should I live in?
What City Should You Live In?
You should live in New York City. America's largest city will ensure that you will blend into the crowd. You are the brooding type--introspective, creative, and eccentric--and NYC's cutting-edge, individualistic culture and ambience will appeal to you.

Day 3...
KLepo and Taha are here - Yay! I'm not the only new/slighlt confused person in the apartment anymore!
We all went and picked KLepo up at the airport (his flight was 40 minutes early, but thankfully he was still in the terminal when we got there), then we came back to the apartment, hung out on the roof (which we might lose soon, courtesy DHA), went out for dinner to Karachi Broast (which is a pretty good local version of Nando's), and then proceeded to come back home and do some further hanging out on the roof - with some AIESEC dance lessons thrown in.
Now the new MC is blogging/checking emails/updating facebook while the old MC is passed out after a hard night of partying...but it's 4:30 am and tomorrow will involve spring cleaning the apartment, so I should log off and get some sleep.
Pictures soon...I just need to get them from all the people who own cameras :D

Day 1
Thought I'd update the blog now that I've finally moved into the MC Mansion. It's been a while since I did anything AIESEC related - took a one month break from everything but emails, and had a blast. Am now in Karachi - the city of lights, and more importantly AIESEC in Pakistan's HQ - and moved into the apartment last night. Very soon the entire place is going to be crawling with incoming and outgoing MCs, CEEDs and interns, so the next few weeks should definitely be interesting.
Sohaib's getting here on the 7th, KLepo get's here tomorrow, and Taha will be moving in soon too - so by next weekend we'll have the whole 07/08 team in the house - really psyched!
More updates after Klepo arrives.
